Damien Williams Fantasy Value Set to Rebound as Chiefs Lead Back

Damien Williams returned from his injury on Sunday night, and fantasy football players relying on him were sorely disappointed. The Kansas City Chiefs picked up their first loss of the year, and Williams tallied only 6.8 PPR points.

Looking beyond that production though, Sunday night's game against the Indianapolis Colts may have actually been a positive sign for his fantasy value.

Williams immediately re-claimed his role as the team's lead running back, and it wasn't particularly close, playing 56 percent of the snaps. There has only been one instance of a KC back playing more than that 56 percent snap share in a game this season, and that was when Williams played 66.2 percent in Week 1.

The entire KC offense underwhelmed against the Colts, so while Williams' lack of production was disappointing, it wasn't especially worrying.

This Patrick Mahomes-led offense is not likely to be held to fewer than 14 points very often, and the explosive upside available in Kansas City is a big part of why their backfield was so heavily discussed heading into the season.

Even including Week 2, when he made an early exit with his knee injury, Williams has accounted for 46 opportunities (31 carries and 15 targets) on the season, accounting for 61.3 percent of the Chiefs' RB opportunities when he has been active. The next highest share is only 36.0 percent for McCoy.

Still the clear lead back in what might be the best offense in the NFL, there's no need to worry about Williams' fantasy value. And if your league mates are concerned, now could be the perfect time to try to trade for him. Williams sits at RB24 in our Week 6 PPR fantasy football rankings and RB20 in our standard scoring rankings.
