The Chicago Cubs have been on a roll over the last couple of weeks. They've won eight of their last 10 games and have won their last three in a row. Chicago's hot streak has them sitting just half a game back of the St. Louis Cardinals for the NL Central lead, leading to more people recognizing the team's recent success.
ESPN has acknowledged the Cubs' current winning ways, placing them at No. 13 in their latest MLB power rankings. It's a three-spot increase over the last rankings when Chicago sat at No. 16.
Chicago Cubs Power Rankings
Chicago is closing in on St. Louis when it comes to the power rankings as well. The Cardinals continue to sit at the No. 11 spot, which gives the Cubs a chance to pass them next week. However, next week's schedule will be tough for Chicago as it includes matchups against the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants.
When it comes to runs scored per game, the Cubs sit just outside of the MLB's top 10 with 4.60 (13th). Their ranking is the same on the other side of the ball as they're allowing opponents to score 4.19 per game.
Another thing that the Cubs have going for them is that they have an incredibly deep roster that could see several players stepping up on any given night to boost their offensive numbers. Four players have already hit the 20-RBI mark, with Javier Baez (32) and Kris Bryant (28) leading the way.
The Cubs are currently in a five-way tie for the 17th-best odds to win the World Series at +6000, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Continuing the hot streak and rising up the rankings would be a good way for Chicago to separate itself from the pack.
