The Washington Commanders have been lead by quarterback Taylor Heinicke for the last four game since Carson Wentz went down with an injury. Washington is 3-1 in those games. The Commanders were 2-4 prior to that with Wentz under center.
Washington Commanders Quarterback Debate
Even when Wentz is able to return from his finger injury, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports that many around the league believe Heinicke will remain the starting QB. He references the fact that the younger players in the locker room have connected more with Heinicke's fiery attitude and approach to the game, and the record speaks for itself.
Yes the Commanders are winning, but it's not like Heinicke is lighting up the stat sheet either. He has thrown 1 interception in all four of his starts, compared to 5 touchdowns. In Week 10, Heinicke had 1 interception and no touchdowns, along with a 66.9 passer rating, but the team got the win over the previously undefeated Philadelphia Eagles.
At the end of the day, winning is the only stat that matters, and regardless of how much Heinicke has to do with that, if it keeps happening with him under center, there is no argument to go back to Wentz.
