It seems like only a matter of time before Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras is donning a new uniform on the diamond. The front office has made little to no progress on contract extension talks and now Christopher Morel has shared an early goodbye message to one of his closest teammates.

Morel spoke on the impact Contreras has made on his young career so far, never being afraid to provide advice or chat in the dugout. Having the veteran in his corner has also helped the 22-year-old to adjust to the MLB level with ease considering he is slashing .298/.381/.524 across 21 games.
Contreras becomes a free agent following the 2022 season and all signs point to a contending team acquiring him prior to the July deadline. Morel made it clear that the two-time All-Star isn't just a luxury piece at this point in his career, but rather a player that can take on a key leadership role.
“From my perspective, he’s someone that a team could build around, even during a rebuild."- Christopher Morel on Willson Contreras
It's safe to say there will be a number of teams interested in bringing aboard a catcher that is on pace to post career-best marks. Contreras is slashing .277/.403/.530 through 47 games and has smacked 10 home runs. The 30-year-old has also racked up 35 runs scored, 23 RBI and 2 stolen bases.
Morel has known Contreras ever since joining the Cubs organization at the age of 16 and that's not going to change moving forward. For now, the two will soak up whatever time they have left together on a Cubs team that has +30000 odds to win the World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
