It looked like Christian McCaffrey was just about to return, crushing Chuba Hubbard's fantasy football outlook. But on Saturday the Carolina Panthers placed McCaffrey on IR, which will sideline him for at least three weeks.

This is obviously a blow to fantasy managers who are waiting to get their first-overall pick back, but it's a huge boost to Hubbard's fantasy football outlook.

When McCaffrey is healthy, he's clearly one of the best players in fantasy football. In two healthy games this year he averaged 26.2 PPR fantasy points. But "when he's healthy" is becoming all too rare a situation.

Hubbard is no McCaffrey, but he's clearly earning trust with the coaches. He played a season-high 65% of the Panthers' offensive snaps in Week 5, racking up a McCaffrey-esque 30 opportunities (24 rushes plus 6 targets), converting those into 18.4 PPR fantasy points.

That kind of volume would make any NFL running back a solid fantasy starter, and if Hubbard keeps leading this backfield you'll want to keep starting him.

McCaffrey will be eligible to return in three weeks, which is an eternity if you're fighting for a playoff spot midway through the fantasy season.
