The Kansas City Chiefs are depending on one of their internal options to step up and fill the WR2 hole left by Sammy Watkins' departure in free agency. The Chiefs' passing attack is already a standout group with Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill as the top targets, but this group needs someone else to emerge that can help take the pressure off of those two All-Pro talents.

Mecole Hardman's great start to the offseason means he may be the receiver to break out for Kansas City in 2021.

Hardman has reportedly made "sizable improvements" in all facets of his game this offseason. In particular, his route running and pass-catching abilities have been highlighted as markedly better in early workouts. The third-year wideout may finally be realizing his potential after being a second-round pick in 2019, which is great news for the Chiefs.

Hardman racked up 41 receptions for 560 yards and 4 TDs in 2020. It wasn't a vastly different performance from his rookie year (26 receptions for 538 yards and 6 TDs), so it's clear there's room for the wideout to still grow.

A potential breakout year from Hardman would be just what this offense needs to keep up with the firepower around the league. Kansas City's case as the favorite (+500) in the odds to win this year's Super Bowl, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, would only get stronger if a third star receiver emerges.
