Chiefs Could be Screwed by NFL Schedule in 2021

Everything pretty much went according to plan for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2021 until the Super Bowl. It's a redemption year for Patrick Mahomes and company as they eye another championship in 2021.

However, their upcoming schedule may not help.

According to ESPN's Mike Clay, the Chiefs own the eighth-most difficult schedule in the NFL next season. It should be noted that the order of games has not been set, but based on the current construction of the league's yearly schedule, the opponents Kansas City will face are already known.

Clay used known opponents and the current construction of league rosters to come up with his strength of schedule projection. This projection is based on a random order of games but we do that Kansas City will square off against the talented teams from the AFC West, AFC North and NFC East.

Mahomes, the 2018 MVP and 2019 Super Bowl MVP, will look to continue a dominant run by the Chiefs offense. Kansas City averaged 415.8 yards per game on offense in 2020 with 4,854 yards through the air. Both marks led the entire NFL.

The Chiefs front office did address the defense as well during the offseason and NFL Draft. Kansas City drafted Missouri linebacker Nick Bolton with their first pick. Additionally, this team has revamped the offense line, perhaps the biggest position of need, with multiple offseason signings.

The Chiefs will look to power through one of the league's most difficult schedules in 2021 with the hopes of a third straight Super Bowl appearance.
