Chase Edmonds looked incredible in limited action in 2019, averaging 5.1 yards per carry and 8.8 yards per reception to rack up 408 yards and 5 touchdowns on 72 touches.
The addition of Kenyan Drake to the Arizona Cardinals' offense meant he didn't get to step up as the team's RB1 in 2021, but he did increase his production with 850 yards and 5 touchdowns on 150 touches.
Now entering his fourth NFL season, it could finally be time for Edmonds' true breakout.
Chase Edmonds Fantasy Value
Edmonds enters the 2021 season as the likely No.1 RB in what is shaping up to be a very dangerous Arizona Cardinals offense.
With Kyler Murray making strides and throwing to a combination of DeAndre Hopkins, A.J. Green and Christian Kirk, scoring should be easy to come by for the Cards. That means whoever the lead back is will have some serious fantasy football upside.
Replacing Drake this offseason, the Cardinals added former Pittsburgh Steeler James Conner. Conner's contract (one year, $1.8 million) doesn't exactly show any real commitment from the team, however.
Conner also received just a 52.2 receiving grade from Pro Football Focus in 2020, compared to 77.0 from Edmonds. In Kliff Kingsbury's pass-first offense, that's another sign that Edmonds should serve as the lead back.
Edmonds already saw 67 targets last year, and now with Conner offering much less competition on passing downs than Kenyan Drake (31 targets), Edmonds' role can be expected to expand.
There is some room for concern that Conner will cut into his early-down work and limit his TD upside in goalline situations, but that receiving role is enough to create plenty of optimism.
Edmonds checks in at RB26 in The Duel's 2021 fantasy football rankings, while Conner is well behind at RB47.
