This season was a bittersweet one for Los Angeles Chargers fans. They got to see their team take some promising steps in the right direction for a rebuild behind star rookie Justin Herbert, but they still only managed to finish third in the AFC West with a 7-9 record.

Chargers fans can take some solace in their outlook for the year ahead, however. FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL futures have the Chargers tied for the 14th-best odds to win Super Bowl LVI in 2022.

Chargers Super Bowl Odds

These odds are a serious reflection of the Chargers' combination of youth and talent, as well as their promising new hire at head coach in Brandon Staley.

Justin Herbert exceeded all expectations as a rookie, with the sixth-overall pick setting the NFL rookie passing touchdown record by throwing 31 in just 15 games. He wasn't just productive by rookie standards, either. He ranked 10th in the NFL in passing touchdowns, and his 289.1 yards per game ranked fourth.

Clearly, the offense is in good hands. And with a defensive-minded head coach in Staley, we can expect some upgrades for a unit that ranked just No. 20 in Football Outsiders' defensive DVOA metric in 2020.

The sky is the limit for this young Chargers team, and fans have to feel pretty good about being considered an above-average Super Bowl contender.
