The Arizona Cardinals are just two years removed from being the worst team in the NFL. They used their first overall draft selection to start anew in 2019, tossing previous first-round pick Josh Rosen aside for the incumbent Kyler Murray, a true generational talent according to some.

Cardinals Playoff Odds

In the franchise's first season under Kliff Kingsbury, the team went 5-10-1, but competed at a much higher level under the new head coach and quarterback. Heading into 2020, they have dark horse odds to make the playoffs currently sitting at +260 on FanDuel Sportsbook.

It's true that the trade for DeAndre Hopkins caused a spike in Arizona's playoff chances, but since then the Cardinals have continued their positive offseason with a really solid draft.

They didn't have too many picks, but they made the ones they had count by getting a dynamic defensive playmaker with Isaiah Simmons in the first while still grabbing offensive tackle Josh Jones in the third (a player originally thought to have late first-round value). The Evan Weaver pick at middle linebacker in the sixth could also become a steal.

When you consider that Deandre Hopkins was practically their second rounder, you couldn't really ask for a better draft from Kingsbury and his team. Sure, they could still use cornerback help behind Patrick Peterson, but this looks like a franchise that is on the rise.

At their current odds, the Cardinals have an implied probability of 27.8 percent to make the playoffs. With Kyler Murray primed for a Lamar Jackson type breakout in year two, you may not find a better dark horse candidate in the NFL.
