With the St. Louis Cardinals in a NL Central race that looks to be heating up heading into summer, any injury news is a bad break. St. Louis sits in third place in the NL Central division with a 31-27 overall record, however, trails the first-place Chicago Cubs by just 1.5 games.

The Cardinals caught one of those bad injury breaks on Friday night when starting pitcher Kwang Hyun Kim exited his start early with lower back tightness. Today, St. Louis placed their starting pitcher on the 10-day Injured List with no concrete timeline currently set for his return.

Kim has been a solid option for the Cardinals starting rotation this season. He's pitched to a 4.05 ERA in 9 starts and 40.0 innings pitched. This lower back tightness is similar to the injury that saw Kim miss his season opener at the beginning of the 2021 campaign.

Currently, the Cardinals own +1100 odds to win the National League Title, according to the latest MLB odds on FanDuel Sportsbook. St. Louis will look to have Kim return healthy and back to his 2020 form, in which he pitched to a 1.62 ERA in 7 starts and 39.0 innings pitched.
