When Cam Akers tore his Achilles tendon before the start of training camp, fans and experts thought that he wouldn't play again until the 2022 NFL season. Well, Akers managed to recover in time for the end of the 2021 regular season and has helped the Los Angeles Rams reach Super Bowl LVI.

Now, FanDuel Sportsbook is projecting that Akers has a real chance to cap off his unlikely comeback with Super Bowl MVP honors.

Cam Akers Super Bowl MVP Odds

Akers currently has +2700 odds to be named Super Bowl 56 MVP, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Those odds currently have the 22-year-old running back tied with Rams teammate Odell Beckham for sixth place.

Only seven running backs have ever received Super Bowl MVP honors in NFL history. The last one to achieve that accolade was the Denver Broncos' Terrell Davis, who led the way to his team's victory at Super Bowl XXXII — nearly 25 years ago.

After seeing just 13 regular season snaps, the Rams have eased Akers back into the lineup in the playoffs. He's seen 54 carries so far and has converted them into 151 rushing yards and an underwhelming 2.8 yards per carry. He's also hauled in five-of-six passes for 62 receiving yards.

If Akers hopes to be named Super Bowl MVP, he needs to improve his ball security. He's fumbled the ball twice during Los Angeles' postseason run, which is more than he had in 16 previous NFL games.

Still, unlikely heroes have stepped up at football's biggest stage in the past. If Akers can do the same, a Super Bowl MVP award is within his grasp.
