The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are in the NFL playoffs for the first time since 2007 and go on the road to take on the Washington Football Team in the Wild Card round. Quarterback Tom Brady is looking to lead another deep playoff run and his first one with the Buccaneers. It all starts on Saturday night.
The Buccaneers finished the regular season 11-5 and are riding a 4-game winning streak. On the other hand, the Washington Football Team needed a Week 17 victory to clinch the NFC East division and head into the postseason with a losing record, at 7-9.
However, the Buccaneers are somehow not the biggest favorites of the weekend. They head into this game as 8.5-point favorites, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL betting odds. The largest spread of the weekend is between New Orleans and Chicago, in which the Saints are 9.5-point favorites.
While a spread 8.5 may not seem low, it certainly is for this matchup. There is no reason the Buccaneers can't win by double-digits. We all know that anything can happen in the playoffs, but it's almost disrespectful right now.
While Washington's defense has been stellar all year, so has Tampa Bay's offense. The Buccaneers rank third in the league scoring 30.8 points per game this season and rank second with 289.1 passing yards per game. Overall, the Buccaneers average 384.1 yards per game (No. 7 in the NFL).
Washington has been carried by their defense as their offense has struggled to put together solid games all season. Washington is only scoring 20.9 points per game (T-No. 25 in the NFL) and average just 4.8 yards per play (second-least in the NFL). It would be hard to imagine them keeping up with the Buccaneers throughout the course of this game.
It seems like the Washington Football Team has become the public underdog to root for and the spread reflects that. Tom Brady and the Buccaneers are looking to end that storyline real quick.
