Earlier in the week, the Cleveland Browns announced the firing of defensive coordinator Joe Woods. Trying to improve a defense that ranked 20th in points allowed last season despite having both talent and star power, the Browns have begun their search for a new DC.

Brian Flores Browns Rumors

NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported on Thursday that former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores is the next man up on their interview list. The team has already spoken with former Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz about the same position.

Flores was strangely fired as the Dolphins' head coach after guiding them to back-to-back winning seasons in 2020 and 2021. He spent the 2022 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers as a linebacker/special defensive assistant coach on Mike Tomlin's staff.

This would be a step back toward head coaching for Flores, who clearly deserves another shot after his success with Miami. Prior to his stint with the Dolphins, Flores worked under Bill Belichick as an assistant coach for the New England Patriots from 2008-2018, serving in a variety of roles.

Flores has actually never held a defensive coordinator role but showed promise as a head coach, so this could serve as the perfect transition and promotion from his current position as he continues to work his way back up the coaching ranks.
