If there's one position unit that the Cleveland Browns may be most excited for this season, it's the secondary. Cleveland spent all of last year without young defensive backs Grant Delpit and Greedy Williams, but the team got some great injury updates on these promising talents.
Both Williams and Delpit returned to practice as the 2021 NFL season draws near. It's a positive sign given both dealt with various injuries that held them out of practices this summer.
Browns Injury News
Williams returns after missing the 2020 season with a nerve issue. He slots right into one of the starting corner roles and Cleveland is anxious to return as starter. As a rookie in 2019, Williams played and started in 12 games while breaking up two passes and recording 47 combined tackles.
Delpit, a 2020 second-round pick, has been dealing with a hamstring issue throughout the summer. It hasn't been the easiest start to his NFL career after an Achilles tear last season, but he was a highly rated prospect coming into his pro football career. The LSU product won the 2019 Thorpe Award, which is given to the nation's top collegiate defensive back.
Cleveland enters Week 1 as 6.5-point road underdogs against the Kansas City Chiefs, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
