The Cleveland Browns have already been busy in free agency this offseason re-signing wide receiver Rashard Higgins and bringing in defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. However, they may not be done just yet as they could still possibly re-sign defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson.
Richardson was recently released in a move to save some cap space and the move cleared $11 million for the team to use elsewhere. Head coach Kevin Stefanski did not rule out a reunion here, but did say Richardson would have to return at a much lower cap hit number.
Sheldon Richardson Browns Rumors
The 30-year-old lineman has spent the last two seasons in Cleveland and appeared in all 32 regular season games with the team. Richardson racked up 126 tackles and 7.5 sacks during that span. He also forced 4 fumbles and broke up 7 pass attempts, so it is safe to say he made an impact on defense.
A lot of NFL teams have had to make some tough cuts this offseason due to cap space issues. Teams are usually always looking to bring back the veteran NFL players, but it is yet to be seen whether Richardson holds any ill will towards the Browns or not.
Richardson has a lot of gas left in the tank and should be productive defensive tackle for at least another few seasons. He should draw a lot of interest in the free agent market, so don't be surprised if Richardson is signed within the next few weeks or so.
