Denver Broncos wide receiver K.J. Hamler showed flashes of promise during the 2020 NFL season. Unfortunately, he didn't get much of an opportunity to build on that in 2021 after an ACL tear suffered in Week 3 sidelined him for the remainder of the season.
The recovery timetable for an ACL tear can vary from person to person. Fortunately for Broncos fans, general manager George Paton shared a promising update regarding Hamler's injury rehab on Friday.
KJ Hamler Injury Update
Paton told reporters on Hamler is "well ahead of schedule" and that he's already been running routes. The Broncos GM added that "no one fights, no one works harder" than the 22-year-old wideout.
The Broncos drafted Hamler with the 46th overall pick at the 2020 NFL Draft after a promising season at Penn State that saw him rack up 904 receiving yards and eight touchdowns on 56 catches.
Unfortunately, having Drew Lock as his quarterback during his rookie season prevented him from reaching his true potential as Hamler finished the 2020 campaign with 30 receptions for 381 yards and three TDs.
Hamler has a real chance to prove himself in 2022 with the help of Super Bowl-winning QB Russell Wilson under center. Sure, he'll have to compete with the likes of Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton and Tim Patrick for targets, but Hamler has a decent chance to succeed with opponents likely paying more attention to the aforementioned trio.
Hamler having a breakout season in his return from an ACL tear would certainly help the Broncos in their quest for a championship. They're currently in a four-way tie for the sixth-best Super Bowl LVII odds (+1600) on FanDuel Sportsbook.
