After playing in 100% of the defensive snaps in Week 1, Denver Broncos safety Justin Simmons landed on the IR with a thigh injury. A longtime anchor of the Broncos' secondary, Simmons missed the minimum requirement of four games before he was even eligible to return.

Fortunately, Denver's defense will be getting a major boost back at practice this week.

Justin Simmons Injury Update

Head coach Nathaniel Hackett told reporters prior to Tuesday's practice that he "believes" Simmons would begin practicing this week. This belief also applied to cornerback Michael Ojemudia and tight end Greg Dulcich.

Hackett's belief came to fruition, as it was later confirmed by team insider Andrew Mason that Simmons did in fact log a practice. It's unclear if this was limited participation or a full practice, but either way it's a welcome sight for the Broncos.

There's no questioning Simmons' importance to Denver's secondary. He's started every game he's played in since 2017, including four straight years without missing a single contest. The Pro Bowl talent rejoins a secondary that's performed quite well in his absence. Currently, the Broncos rank first in terms of passing yards allowed while surrendering the second-fewest passing TDs.

Simmons and his Broncos are getting ready for a Week 6 clash with the Los Angeles Chargers. It's unclear if Simmons will be ready to play on Monday Night Football in any sort of capacity, but the team has three weeks to officially activate him to the 53-man roster.

Denver enters this AFC West division rivalry game as a 4.5-point road underdog, per the NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook.
