A former second-round pick, K.J. Hamler showed flashes of promise as a rookie in 2020. Unfortunately, hip and ACL injuries held him to just three games as a sophomore, leaving fans wondering about his health heading into the 2022 NFL season.
Fortunately, Hamler is in a much better spot than when he was in September. In fact, the Broncos just received a tremendous injury update when team insider Mike Klis revealed that Denver is expected to activate Hamler from the PUP list sometime on Monday.
KJ Hamler Injury Update
Klis said that Hamler is rebounding from his injuries "better than expected." That's great news considering that speed is what makes the young wideout successful. While he doesn't own an official 40-yard dash time, he did clock in a time of 4.27 seconds at his pro day two years ago.
Hamler has played a total of 16 games in his two-year NFL career. The former Penn State product has turned 66 receptions into 455 yards and three touchdowns over that span, however, his 12.1% drop rating shows that he could benefit from being more consistent with his hands.
Assuming that he can stay healthy, Hamler has a bright future as the Broncos' No. 4 wideout. Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton and Tim Patrick all slot in higher than him, but Russell Wilson is good enough to spread the ball around.
A healthy Hamler is the type of player that can play a big role in helping the Broncos live up to their preseason hype. For now, Denver currently owns +1700 odds (No. 8) to win Super Bowl LVII next February, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
