The 2022 World Series officially wrapped up Saturday night, meaning the offseason officially began on Sunday. Trades are now allowed to be negotiated between teams again, and the Atlanta Braves wasted no time in making a move right as the window opened.
The Braves acquired outfield depth in a deal with the Colorado Rockies on Sunday.
Atlanta sent minor league pitcher Dylan Spain to Colorado in exchange for OF Sam Hilliard. Spain was a 10th-round pick by the Braves during the 2021 MLB Draft, but went 0-5 in 2022 with a 5.30 ERA.
Hilliard offers some experience after playing the last four seasons for the Rockies. He was a semi-regular in Colorado's lineup this past year, appearing in 70 games. He struggled as a hitter, though, recording 2 home runs and 14 RBIs while slashing just .184/.280/.264.
Expect many more moves from Atlanta this offseason as Alex Anthopoulos looks to get this club back to the World Series. The Braves head into this winter at +800 to win the championship in 2023, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's World Series odds.
