3 Best Remaining Akiem Hicks Free-Agent Destinations for 2022 NFL Season
By Max Staley
Akiem Hicks isn't the elite defensive tackle he was was, but the 32-year-old can still produce at a high level. In nine games last year, the veteran recorded 3.5 sacks, 25 tackles and received a 72.3 grade from ProFootballFocus.
At this point, Hicks is one of the best free agents that's still on the market. Here are the three best remaining destinations for the 32-year-old DT.
Akiem Hicks Free Agency 2022
3. Indianapolis Colts
The Indianapolis Colts have $22 million in available cap space, and adding Hicks into the mix could make this defense a real force to contend with. Hicks and DeForest Buckner would be virtually unblockable on the interior of the D-Line. Signing Hicks could help make Indianapolis the real power in the the AFC South.
2. Miami Dolphins
Somehow, the Miami Dolphins still have over $21 million in cap space, and they have a real need on the interior of the D-Line. Christian Wilkins is quietly turning into a star, but Hicks would be a significant upgrade over Adam Butler. Putting Hicks next to Wilkins could help him take his career to the next level in year four and give Miami one of the best defenses in the AFC, on paper.
1. Cleveland Browns
The Cleveland Browns have Myles Garrett and not a lot else on the D-Line. But they have $21 million in available cap space, meaning a veteran like Hicks on a one-year deal is exactly what they should be looking for. Hicks would be an obvious improvement over the likes of Jordan Elliott and Taven Bryan. Add another EDGE like Jerry Hughes or Justin Houston and this D-Line could get real good in a hurry.
