The Atlanta Falcons found a way to upgrade the receiving core this past week by trading for wideout Bryan Edwards of the Las Vegas Raiders. It didn't take long for the front office to make another move, this time in free agency. The Falcons have signed five-year pro Geronimo Allison to a 2022 contract.

Allison participated in the team's rookie minicamp this past weekend and made a good enough impression to warrant a spot on the roster. The 28-year-old spent most of last season on the Detroit Lions' practice squad and previously opted out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19 concerns.

Prior to the pandemic, Allison had spent the first four years of his NFL career with the Green Bay Packers. He amassed 1,045 yards and 6 touchdowns on 89 receptions across a total of 46 games played. The Illinois product proved capable of racking up yards after the catch using his big frame.

Allison's ability to make an impact on special teams could give him a leg up on other reserve candidates when it comes to being on the field in Week 1. The opportunity is there for him to earn some playing time over Auden Tate, Damiere Byrd, KhaDarel Hodge and/or Frank Darby.

The Falcons head into the fall hoping the addition of Edwards along with first-round pick Drake London can fill in the gap left by Calvin Ridley and Russell Gage. Building quick chemistry with starting quarterback Marcus Mariota is of the utmost importance during training camp this summer.

Atlanta has the second-worst odds to win Super Bowl 57 at +25000, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
