The Oakland Athletics are in the midst of another lost season as they clock in at a whopping 32.5 games back in the AL West. With the postseason clearly out of reach, Oakland is taking the opportunity to get extended looks at younger players that could help turn things around if they develop.

This eye toward the future has rubbed one veteran players the wrong way in terms of his current role.

Elvis Andrus told Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle that he's "pissed" about his reduction in playing time. Despite his frustrations, he knows he needs to "stay positive" and wait for a bigger opportunity to present itself.

"Everybody knows I’m an everyday player. So doing this, it’s not fun for me"

Elvis Andrus

This certainly isn't the situation the two-time All-Star wants to be in amid a bounce-back year. He's slashing .237/.298/.367, posting his best OBP and slugging percentage since 2019. He's also recorded 7 home runs, 28 RBIs and 7 stolen bases, showing he can still produce at almost 34 years old.

Andrus' unique contract structure also is likely playing a role in his playing time reduction. His $15 million team option for 2023 actually becomes a player option if Andrus records 550 plate appearances in 2022. Currently at 346 PAs, it'd be no surprise to see the cost-cutting A's do everything they can down the stretch to avoid picking up that tab.
