Week 10 was a downright disaster for the Atlanta Falcons. Atlanta was completely outplayed by the lowly Carolina Panthers, and quarterback Marcus Mariota looked like a clear hindrance to the team during a 25-15 defeat.
Mariota's poor performance once again prompted pleas to see rookie Desmond Ridder in action. Head coach Arthur Smith responded to those demands after the game.
Smith started off his postgame press conference by making it clear he never considered swapping Ridder in for Mariota during Thursday's game. His approach to the QB situation isn't a surprise, but it is frustrating. Mariota made several mistakes -- including a near-interception thrown from a seated position -- against the Panthers that simpy can't happen from your starter.
While Smith continues to defend Mariota from his deserved criticism, the head coach did offer fans hoping to see Ridder a glimmer of hope.
Smith's non-answer about the team's Week 11 QB plans could be seen as leaving the door open for Ridder to start. It could also be Smith just talking in coach speak, since he's shown no desire to move on from Mariota so far.
Regardless, Atlanta's quarterback situation is one to watch. Having a longer break than usual before their Week 11 matchup could be the perfect time to try out a change under center.
