Bears tight end Tre Burton has officially been ruled out for Sunday's NFC Wild Card game, leaving Adam Shaheen to start in his place.
Shaheen has been in and out of the lineup with injuries in his two years in the NFL, including this season, when he started on the injured reserve.
Good news on Eddie Jackson. Tough news on Trey Burton. It is going to have to be a big Adam Shaheen day. https://t.co/UGDXeHCXFt— Walker Carey (@walkerRcarey) January 6, 2019
The loss of Burton could be huge for the Bears. Burton put together a solid season with 54 catches, 569 yards, and 6 TDs. Although, the Eagles provide a tough matchup for tight ends regardless of who's lining up for their Bears. They surrendered the fifth fewest fantasy points to the tight end position this season (9.2 FPPG). The Eagles only gave up two touchdowns to tight ends as well this year.
Shaheen only has 5 catches for 48 yards and one score in six games this season. Going up against a matchup like the Eagles have been tough for any tight end, but someone with as little experience and success as Shaheen can't be expected to do much. It would be wise to look elsewhere if in need of a tight end this Sunday.
