5 Unranked College Football Teams With Better Résumés Than AP Top 25 Poll Teams

The AP is usually on point with their college football Top 25. However, there are a few teams this year that are more deserving of a ranking than those currently on the list. Hopefully, the playoff committee will get things right once their first rankings come out, but until then, here are the top five unranked teams that have better resumes than teams in the AP Top 25 Poll.

5. Colorado Buffaloes (5-1)

Colorado is quietly off to a 5-1 start to the season, yet AP voters haven't looked their way at all in recent weeks. The Buffaloes are averaging 34.8 points per game and have at least one quality win under their belt over previously-ranked Arizona State. Due to their 46th-ranked remaining strength of schedule, it'll be hard for Colorado to get the voters' attention but a win over No. 15 Washington this Saturday could just give them enough votes to earn a well-deserved spot in the poll.

4. Stanford Cardinal (5-2)

Stanford has had a rollercoaster ride of a season so far, but their resume indicates that they should still be in the AP Top 25 Poll. Two of their five wins have come against top 25 teams, including a thrilling overtime victory over then-No. 12 Oregon, and one of their losses came against then-No. 8 Notre Dame. The Cardinal's loss to Utah is probably what's unjustly keeping them from reappearing on the poll, but that can easily be fixed by winning their next two games against No. 25 WSU and No. 15 Washington.

3. Ole Miss Rebels (5-2)

It seems like Ole Miss has been pushed to the wayside due to fears of SEC bias from AP voters, but their resume shouldn't be ignored. The Rebels have scored at least 38 points in all five of their wins this year and both of their losses have come against top five teams in Alabama and LSU. With the 10th-toughest remaining strength of schedule in the nation, Ole Miss can climb their way into the rankings with wins over Auburn, No. 17 Texas A&M and/or No. 22 Mississippi State.

2. San Diego State Aztecs (5-1)

At this point, it's safe to say that the Aztecs aren't in the AP Top 25 thanks to the non-Power Five conference bias. Their resume proves that they're more than worthy of being ranked. SDSU has wins over perennial New Year's Six contenders Boise State and then-No. 23 Arizona State and their only loss so far came in their season opener to then-No. 13 Stanford. There's not much more that San Diego State can do, except to keep on winning. If they do, it'll teach the AP to respect the Mountain West.

1. Duke Blue Devils (5-1)

Considering they own the 13th best strength of record in the nation, Duke is, by far, the most deserving of a spot in the AP Top 25 Poll of any team on this list. The Blue Devils are sitting pretty at 5-1 with their only loss coming to ACC rival Virginia Tech. With quality wins over Northwestern and Georgia Tech already on their resume and a favorable schedule ahead, don't be surprised if Duke sneaks it's way into the top 25 in the coming weeks.
