New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman is set to make his 2018 NFL season debut on Thursday night against the Indianapolis Colts. This comes after a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy -- not to mention, he missed the entire 2017 season with a torn ACL.

Edelman was not permitted at the Patriots' team facility during the suspension, but there was another team that took him in during these tumultuous times.

The Boston Celtics ... of the National Basketball Association.

When Adam Schefter and Adrian Wojnarowski come together on a story, you know it's a big deal.

Edelman spent a lot of time with the Celtics training staff and used the team's weight room. He even played ping pong against Celtics forward and former Indiana high school tennis state champion Gordon Hayward.

"He's a good player," Hayward texted ESPN. "I haven't played against someone who moved like he did when he played. He was all over the place and low to the ground."

Edelman can get his revenge on Hayward tonight with a big performance against his hometown Colts.

Lord knows the Patriots could certainly use Edelman's presence back in the lineup. Quarterback Tom Brady's season hasn't gotten off to the start he'd like, and adding one of his favorite weapons should go a long way in getting those numbers back to an elite level.
