The San Francisco 49ers officially got the dreaded news they were expecting on Monday. The injury starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo suffered late in the 49ers loss to the Chiefs was indeed a torn ACL, ending the quarterback's season and effectively the Niners season along with it.

Garoppolo himself wasn't off to the best start to the season, at least not a continuation of the 5-0 record he had with the Niners to end last season. Garoppolo had 718 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions in just under three games on the year, not stellar numbers, but good enough to be competing and trending in the right direction.

Non-contact ACL injuries seem to be happening more and more recently, with quarterbacks Teddy Bridgewater, DeShaun Watson and now Garoppolo all falling victim in recent years.

Nevertheless, the Niners must move forward with backup quarterback C.J. Beathard at least for the immediate future. Beathard threw for 1,430 yards four touchdowns and six interceptions in seven games last season for the Niners.

If Beathard doesn't work out, there are possibly a few options the Niners could look to that could be available on the open market or by trade. The most intriguing name that's been floated out there by some is a reunion with Colin Kaepernick.

Only time will tell what happens, but for now, Jimmy G's season is over.
