The Urban Meyer "suspension" is over and as it comes to an end, the Ohio State Buckeyes are 3-0 with a win over a Top 25 TCU team in Arlington under their belt.
This doesn't exactly come as too much of a surprise, as Week 1 was a matchup with Oregon State and Week 2 was Rutgers, but beating TCU by 12 points down in Texas was impressive without their head coach on the sideline. Now they get Meyer back for the Week 4 game with Tulane and looking ahead to the Top 10 matchup with Penn State in a couple weeks.
So now that Meyer is back, what has that done for Ohio State's Championship odds?
Ohio State's Odds to Win 2018-19 #NCAAF College Football Playoff by Week via @FDSportsbook
— TheDuel (@TheDuelSports) September 17, 2018
Week 1: +850
Week 2: +850
Week 3: +700
+ Urban Meyer
Week 4: +650
Week 13:
Week 3's developments bumped Ohio State from +700 to +650 and the 3-0 start has them up all the way from +850. The +650 puts Ohio State as the third-heaviest favorite to win the College Football Playoff, behind Clemson at +500 and Alabama at +150. But with how impressive the Buckeyes looked without Meyer thus far, these odds are bound to climb as the season progresses, especially if they beat Penn State.
For now, Ohio State is just happy to have their head coach back in a full capacity and will look to blow out Tulane this week in Columbus. But later in the year, we may look back at OSU +650 as ludicrously high odds for a team that may go undefeated.
We'll see what Meyer can pull off in the remaining nine games to give his team a shot at the crown.
