The Cleveland Browns will release troubled wide receiver Josh Gordon on Monday.

The news comes as a shocker, just hours after the Browns announced he wouldn't be available for Sunday's game with a hamstring injury. With this news, it seems like the "hamstring injury" was a facade for something else.

In Gordon's absence, look for receivers Jarvis Landry, Rashard Higgins, and Antonio Callaway to get extra targets going forward. Even tight end David Njoku, who played the most snaps of any NFL tight end in Week 1, should get more looks as well.

It has been a bizarre week, to say the least, for Gordon and the Browns. The embattled wide receiver only hauled in one catch on three targets for 17 yards and a touchdown in the Week 1 tie against the Pittsburgh Steelers. All of this came in a game he wasn't supposed to start but ended up doing so anyway because of miscommunication.

Gordon has dealt with numerous suspensions during his time in the NFL, mostly due to failed drug tests, so we'll have to see if this is the case once again. More to come on this story as it unfolds.
