Cubs starting pitcher Yu Darvish underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow Wednesday. The procedure is minimally invasive, and the hope is that he'll be ready for spring training in 2019.

Darvish hasn't pitched since May 21 and only threw a total of 40 innings, all of this coming after signing a six-year, $126-million deal with the Cubs in the offseason. He finished 2018 with a 1-3 record and a 4.95 ERA.

The Cubs haven't shown they miss Darvish too much yet. After all, they have a two-game lead in the NL Central, and still have a good shot of making the playoffs via the Wild Card, even if those divisional plans don't come to fruition.

Fantasy owners probably don't want to hear the word "Darvish" for a while, especially if they used an early-round pick on the former ace.

Looking ahead to 2019, Darvish can't be trusted after this debacle of a season. Perhaps he could be a nice late-round bounceback candidate that doesn't have many expectations attached to his name, but that's about it.
