The San Francisco 49ers travel east to take on the New York Jets in NFL Week 2 action after an opening loss to the Arizona Cardinals last week. The 49ers are favored by a touchdown in this game, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
In order to rebound from an opening week loss, the 49ers might need to step up their game and find ways to surprise the Jets. With that in mind, here are three bold predictions for the 49ers against the Jets.
1. Jimmy Garoppolo Throws for 300+ Yards
Jimmy Garoppolo only threw for over 300-plus yards three times last season, but he gets it done in this game. The 49ers are facing a team that ranked No. 16 last year in passing yards allowed per game in the NFL (236.2) and then traded their best defensive player, Jamal Adams, in the offseason. The Jets also just let Josh Allen throw for a career-high 312 yards in Week 1. Look for Jimmy G to have a big game against a weak passing defense.
2. Mohamed Sanu Scores a Touchdown in his 49ers Debut
Don't be surprised if Mohamed Sanu finds his way into the end zone in this game. While Sanu has 26 career touchdowns, the other five wide receiver on the 49ers have a combined 21 touchdowns. He brings a sense of stability and leadership to this receiving core and should be looked at by Garoppolo in the red zone. If Sanu carves out a role quickly enough, he has a real shot
3. The 49ers Sack Sam Darnold 5+ Times
The 49ers pride themselves on having one of the best defenses in the league and that includes their defensive line. Featuring players like Nick Bosa and Arik Armstead (coming off a 10 sack season), the 49ers should have no trouble sacking quarterback Sam Darnold early and often in this game. The Jets gave up 3 sacks last week and allowed the fifth-most sacks in the league last year (52). Likely to be playing from behind without Le'Veon Bell, Darnold could be under duress all day.
