Running backs are an interesting position when it comes to the NFL Draft. There are some clear top players taken early, but they are now a position many teams feel they can wait on. There even are undrafted rookies that emerge as contributors every season. However, Javonte Williams appears to be one of the studs that teams have their eye on.
The North Carolina product spent three seasons with the Tar Heels, getting better each year. He ran for 1,140 yards and 19 touchdowns in his final season, averaging 7.3 yards per carry. Williams added another 305 yards and three touchdowns as a receiver.
These are the three most likely teams to draft Williams.
3. Arizona Cardinals (No. 49)
Kenyan Drake's contract is up in Arizona, making him a free agent. After a relatively disappointing season, the Cardinals will likely let him walk and replace that production with a second-round rookie. Williams is a capable runner and receiver, making him a solid candidate to fill Drake's shoes.
2. Miami Dolphins (No. 50)
The Dolphins had plenty of interesting running back options this past season, but at no point did it feel like they had their answer at the position going forward. With solid offensive line play, Williams could be a game-changer for this team. He also has the power to finish runs, which the Dolphins currently lack.
1. Atlanta Falcons (No. 68)
The Falcons have plenty of holes that need to be filled. After the Todd Gurley experiment this past season failed, they are looking for production at the running back position. Considering Matt Ryan and Julio Jones are owned nearly $64 million between them this season, they need to find some cheap weapons, and Williams would fit the bill, especially in the third round.
