WNBA Best Bets

Phoenix Mercury at New York Liberty

Mercury +14 (-108)

The New York Liberty have not found their rhythm yet and have dropped back-to-back games. Tonight feels like the game they get back on track, but I don't picture a blow out against a Phoenix Mercury team that deserves some respect early in the season.

New York is 4-2, having lost their last two games by 9 and 17. With how high the expectations are for Liberty, things need to change -- quickly. But with that recent stretch of play, there's no reason to believe in them to cover a monumental spread of 14 points -- I just don't see it.

The Liberty are sixth in the WNBA this season with 83.3 points per game. Phoenix happens to be right behind them, averaging 81.3 points per game. That's all the more impressive for the Mercury, considering they were able to total only 47 points in their last game -- this is a bounce-back game for them, as well.

If you're looking for reasons as to why the Mercury can hang in there with the Liberty tonight, start with Kahleah Copper. The guard is second in the league with 25.5 points per game, trailing only Dallas' Arike Ogunbowale. Along with her is veteran Diana Taurasi and Natasha Cloud -- all of whom should carry the scoring to keep the Mercury in the game. They were able to beat the Aces already this season, so don't count them out against the Liberty.

With such a big spread, the 3-3 Mercury should be able to keep the game close enough against the struggling Liberty.

Las Vegas Aces at Minnesota Lynx

Over 169 Points (-110)

If there's a matchup tonight in the WNBA to grab your popcorn for and enjoy, it's this game between the Las Vegas Aces and Minnesota Lynx.

The Lynx, not the Aces, are the best team in the league right now. They sit atop the WNBA with a 4-1 record, including two wins over the Seattle Storm and a victory over the New York Liberty. Their lone loss was to the defensive-minded Connecticut Sun -- which ended up being a one-point game. The Lynx have leveled up this season, and Napheesa Collier is leading the way.

Las Vegas, unsurprisingly, remains a dominant force -- even if they're not number one in the standings at a record of 3-1. The Aces currently have three scorers averaging 20 or more points with A'ja Wilson sitting at 25.5, Jackie Young scoring 22.5, and Kelsey Plum right behind with 20.8. With Chelsea Gray out of action, the Aces will lean on this trio to do the heavy lifting against the Lynx.

The reason to love the over for this game is that these teams are the top scoring squads in the WNBA. Las Vegas is averaging a league-leading 91.3 points, and the Lynx are right behind them at 88.6. Notably, the Aces have hit the over on this total in three of their four games while the Lynx have hit it in two out of five.

I am running with the over tonight in what may be the best game of the early season.
