WNBA Best Bets

Chicago Sky at New York Liberty

Liberty -16 (-110)

Breanna Stewart Over 21.5 Points (-122)

The New York Liberty have shown they're the best of the best in the WNBA so far this season, opening up to a 4-0 record with dominant victories over the Washington Mystics, Indiana Fever (twice), and Seattle Storm.

New York has outscored their opponents by 5, 36, 11, and 11. It's been a wave of difference, but the 36-point victory came against the bottom-of-the-league Fever. The 11-point win over the Storm may be their most impressive win, considering the talent that the Storm has rostered. So, why do I think New York should be able to cover against the Chicago Sky at -16 (-110)? Chicago is in the same conversation as the Fever with how banged up their team is.

The Sky will be missing their number-two scorer, Diamond DeShields, tonight, as well as Isabelle Harrison and Kamilla Cardoso. It will put the Sky at a serious disadvantage against a Liberty team that can hurt you inside, mid-range, and outside. I expect New York to take care of business, and it'll likely be because of Breanna Stewart with New York's main bigs out of action.

The reigning WNBA MVP has started off her season strongly, averaging 19.8 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 2.8 steals, and 1.8 blocks. It’s as solid of a line as you’ll find, but it’s time for those points to start going back up. In her two best games this season, she’s recorded 31 and 24 points, giving me all the reason to believe she can finish tonight with over 21.5 against the Sky.

After all, she’s coming off a first season with the Liberty where she averaged an excellent 23.0 points per game. Chicago won’t have answers for the two-time MVP.

Take the Liberty with Stewart leading the way. This should be a one-sided victory for New York.

Minnesota Lynx at Connecticut Sun

Lynx +6 (-112)

The top matchup of the three-game WNBA slate for tonight is this one. The undefeated Minnesota Lynx take on the undefeated Connecticut Sun -- this should be a good one.

Minnesota didn’t receive the hype in the offseason you’d expect for such a well-rounded team led by Napheesa Collier -- the league's third-leading scorer so far this season. Collier is pacing the Lynx with 24.5 points per game while Alanna Smith is right behind her at 19.0 points per game. An under-the-radar addition this offseason was longtime veteran Courtney Williams, who has settled in well to bolster Minnesota's lineup.

It'll be tough tonight, as the Sun are comfortably considered the third-best team in the WNBA behind the Las Vegas Aces and previously mentioned Liberty.

Connecticut just barely escaped the Fever in their last game, winning by a score of 88-84. Brionna Jones is still working her way into her previous form, but she's been important when she's played. Jones is averaging 7.7 points and 4.7 rebounds in 21.0 minutes per game thus far. The Sun's big three hasn't fully found their game yet, but 2023 WNBA MVP runner-up Alyssa Thomas is averaging 16.7 points and 11.7 rebounds while DeWanna Bonner leads the team in points per night with 21.3.

With Jones still limited, the Lynx should be able to keep this game tight until the end. This is one of the most exciting early matchups in the 2024 WNBA season, and it should go down to the wire. I am rolling with the Lynx to cover.
