Valspar Championship Daily Fantasy Targets

These picks stand out relative to their FanDuel daily fantasy golf salary. All stats cited below originate at datagolf and reference ranks relative to the field over the past 50 rounds unless otherwise noted. All betting odds come from the golf odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.

Valspar Championship Daily Fantasy Studs

Xander Schauffele ($12,300 | +700)

Schauffele’s excellent 2024 continued with a T2 finish at THE PLAYERS Championship last week. He has finished T25 or better in six of his seven events this season with five top 10s and three top 5s. Schauffele is the only golfer who ranks inside the top 10 in both strokes gained: approach (2nd) and strokes gained: off the tee (8th) -- two keys this week at a course datagolf lists as the 10th-toughest course on the PGA Tour to gain greens in regulation and 4th-toughest to gain strokes off the tee.

Schauffele also ranks first in the field in total strokes gained and strokes gained: tee to green, as well as 6th in strokes gained: around the green and 11th in strokes gained: putting. In strokes gained: tee to green, he is more than half a stroke per round ahead of the next closest golfer, Lucas Glover. In total strokes gained, that lead extends to +0.76 strokes per round, ahead of Sam Burns in second.

Schauffele hasn’t won since he picked up three victories in 2022, but he has consistently put himself in the mix. He has the edge on win odds and finished T12 in his only appearance at this event back in 2022.

At THE PLAYERS last week, he was the only golfer to finish the event ranked inside the top 20 in all major strokes gained categories.

Cameron Young ($11,300 | +2200)

Cameron Young doesn’t crack the top 10 in both strokes gained: approach (6th) and strokes gained: off the tee (12th), but he is very close. Like Schauffele, Young’s off-the-tee numbers are supported more by his driving distance (23rd) than his driving accuracy (83rd), but elite approach play is key here. Young has gained strokes on approach in seven of his eight events this season and finished fifth in strokes gained: approach at THE PLAYERS last week.

Young’s putting has let him down in his past two events, leading to finishes of T36 and T54, but before that he gained strokes putting in three consecutive events, with finishes of T4, T16, and T8.

Outside of his play around the green, which is a concern this week, Young has demonstrated everything required to win on the PGA Tour. He has yet to put it all together, but the strength of his approach game should give him a chance to do this week.

Others to Consider:

  • Sam Burns ($12,100 | +1100)
  • Justin Thomas ($11,900 | +1400)
  • Brian Harman ($11,100 | +2200)
  • Nick Taylor ($10,600 | +2800)

Valspar Championship Daily Fantasy Mid-Range Plays

Sepp Straka ($9,700 | +6000)

Sepp Straka is coming off a T16 finish at THE PLAYERS where he gained strokes in every category except putting (-0.19) and finished under par in each of his four rounds. He is 17th in the field in strokes gained: approach and 31st in strokes gained: off the tee. He is one of only four players to rank inside the top 20 in both strokes gained: approach and driving accuracy (17th) this week.

Among that group of four, Straka ranks second in strokes gained: putting and first in driving distance.

Doug Ghim ($9,700 | +5000)

Doug Ghim began the 2024 season with consecutive missed cuts at the Sony Open and The American Express; in his five events since, he has finished no worse than T16, highlighted by an 8th-place finish at the WM Phoenix Open and a 16th-place finish at THE PLAYERS last week.

During his run, Ghim has gained strokes on approach and off the tee in all five events -- and strokes putting and around the green in four of five. He ranks 94th in driving distance but 9th in driving accuracy, a good fit for Innisbrook Resort. Ghim ranks 6th in strokes gained: tee-to-green, 19th in strokes gained: off the tee, 25th in strokes gained: approach and 24th in total strokes gained.

He finished T27 at his most recent appearance here in 2023.

Others to Consider:

  • Aaron Rai ($9,900 | +6000)
  • Sam Ryder ($9,200 | +8000)
  • Adam Schenk ($9,100 | +7500)

Valspar Championship Daily Fantasy Value Plays

Joel Dahmen ($8,500 | +11000)

In his first six events this season, Joel Dahmen missed three cuts and finished no better than T41. After shooting a 74 on Thursday at THE PLAYERS, Dahmen turned things around in a big way, carding three consecutive rounds of 68 or better to finish T11 in a stacked field. He finished the event ranked inside the top 10 in shots gained: around the green, tee to green, and off the tee, and finished 15th in shots gained: approach. For this week, the question is, can he maintain it?

Dahmen’s struggles with the flat stick are a huge concern; he ranks 138th in the field in strokes gained: putting and has lost strokes putting in each of his three appearances here. That said, he ranks 12th in strokes gained: tee to green, 23rd in strokes gained: off the tee, 33rd in strokes gained: approach, 40th in strokes gained: around the green and is 15th in driving accuracy.

Driving accuracy has been the one constant in Dahmen’s game this season. He has hit a higher percentage of fairways than the field in six of seven events.

Lee Hodges ($8,300 | +15000)

Lee Hodges is coming off a T35 finish at THE PLAYERS and has finished T35 or better in three of his last four events. He is 26th in the field in strokes gained: approach, 31st in driving accuracy and 44th in strokes gained: putting. His play around the greens (135th in the field) is a concern, but he has demonstrated solid approach play, excellent putting (at least +1.0 strokes gained per round), and good driving accuracy at two very tough courses, Bay Hill and TPC Sawgrass, in the last two weeks.

Others to Consider:

  • Lucas Glover ($8,900 | +8000)
  • Mackenzie Hughes ($8,500 | +12000)
  • Matt NeSmith ($7,900 | +11000)
