Rangers Analysis

The Rangers are trying to be the first team to win back-to-back World Series title since the New York Yankees won three straight in 1998, 1999, and 2000.

There's a lot to like about the Rangers heading into this season. First off, they will have Corey Seager, Marcus Semien, and Adolis Garcia back to lead their high-powered offense, the same offense that ranked third in both wOBA (.340) and home runs (233) in 2023. They'll also get a full season of Evan Carter after his sensational postseason. Their 2023 first-round selection, Wyatt Langford, could add an interesting aspect to their lineup. Both Carter and Langford are among the frontrunners in the AL Rookie of the Year odds.

Where the concern for the Rangers comes from -- as shown by the projections of FanGraphs -- will be their pitching. Both Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer are expected to open the season on the Injured List, leaving Texas without their two top starters until what is expected to be the middle of the summer. Also, Jordan Montgomery, who played a key role late in 2023, is a free agent.

They'll be counting on postseason hero Nathan Eovaldi to lead the staff in the meantime. Texas added veterans like David Robertson and Kirby Yates to their bullpen, so that gives some hope that at least one part of their pitching staff can hold up while the Rangers find out where their rotation is going to be.

Going back-to-back isn't easy. It's why it hasn't happened in more than 20 years. But if the offense can power the Rangers early on while Scherzer and deGrom get healthy, Texas should be in the hunt again in 2024.
