The Premier League season is still in its early stages, but we've already seen some teams establish themselves as contenders while others have gotten off to concerning starts.

Saturday's slate is particularly fun, with seven matches on tap before Sunday's two-game schedule.

EPL Predictions: Premier League Picks

Sunderland at Brentford (Sat, 10 a.m. ET)

Brentford Over 1.5 Goals (-136)

Brentford has been one of the most impressive attacking teams through the opening two matches of the season.

The Bees have generated 5.5 expected goals (xG), the second-highest mark in the Premier League, and are averaging 24 shots per 90 minutes. Only Manchester United has averaged more. Brentford has also generated seven high turnovers that ended in a shot, the most in the league.

That aggressive style could be important against a Sunderland team that prefers to defend in a compact shape. Sunderland has allowed only three shots on target through two matches, so this isn't necessarily a super friendly matchup.

Still, Brentford has the attacking volume to eventually break down Sunderland. Kevin Schade has already attempted eight shots this season, while Igor Thiago has seven, and Sunderland will be without midfielder Habib Diarra.

Homefield is another reason to side with the Bees. Brentford beat Sunderland 3-0 at the Gtech Community Stadium in January, with Thiago scoring twice.

Coventry at Manchester City (Sat, 10 a.m. ET)

Man City Over 1.5 First-Half Goals (+140)

It’s been a rough start to the campaign for Coventry, and I think they’ll get put to the sword by Manchester City today.

City has opened the season with consecutive victories and owns a 6-2 aggregate scoring advantage. More importantly, the underlying numbers have been strong. City has generated 3.8 xG while conceding only 1.2 xG, giving it the second-lowest xGA total in the league behind Arsenal.

Coventry's transition to the Premier League has been much more difficult. The Sky Blues have lost both matches, have yet to score and have generated just 1.6 xG. They suffered a tough 1-0 home defeat to Hull — a fellow promoted side — last time out and now have to visit the Etihad Stadium without injured striker Haji Wright.

City's projected front four of Phil Foden, Rayan Cherki, Antoine Semenyo and Erling Haaland gives Enzo Maresca plenty of firepower.

With Coventry’s spirits likely a little low and Man City holding a massive talent advantage, I think Haaland and company put Coventry to bed early.

Chelsea at Arsenal (Sun, 11:30 a.m. ET)

Arsenal is my preferred side in this matchup.

Mikel Arteta's team has started the season with consecutive clean-sheet victories, beating Coventry City 3-0 before earning a 1-0 win at Aston Villa. The underlying defensive numbers are particularly impressive: Arsenal allowed the fewest shots and lowest xG total in the Premier League through the first two matchdays.

Chelsea presents a tough test, especially with Cole Palmer and João Pedro both scoring in the opening two league games. Still, Chelsea's defense has already allowed five goals, and Arsenal should be capable of creating enough chances to exploit that weakness.

The Blues’ style could lead to a more open match than we usually get from Arsenal, but I think the Gunners prevail nonetheless.
