NHL Stanley Cup Final Game 3 Betting Picks and Prediction (Panthers-Oilers)

The Edmonton Oilers are looking to avoid a 3-0 deficit in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final.

Whether it's moneylines or total goals, there are plenty of ways to bet on the NHL action all season. It's been a long 82-game campaign, meaning that the best selections of each night can be very different based on backup goalies coming into play, injuries that add up, and if teams are due for positive or negative swings. Now it's time for the Stanley Cup Final, pitting the best against the best from each conference.

Let's dive into the best bets for Thursday.

NHL Best Bets

Florida Panthers at Edmonton Oilers

Under 5.5 Goals (-118)

The Oilers haven't had any answers for the Florida Panthers through the first two games of the series. As the series heads to Edmonton for the first time, the low scoring trend in this series should remain the same. I'm taking Under 5.5 Goals (-118) once again.

Defense has been the tale of this series -- specifically for the Panthers. They've shut down the Oilers to extreme levels. Those extreme levels have included the best power play of the playoffs prior to the Stanley Cup Final being completely blanked -- going 0-for-7 through the first two games of the series.

The power play has been the bread and butter for the Oilers and while returning home may be their answer to scoring, they're still struggling to score on Sergei Bobrovsky. The Conn Smythe Trophy favorite (-190) has saved 50 of 51 shots through two games -- leaving the Oilers looking for answers.

Overall, the Panthers are scoring but actually have the lower expected goals for per 60 minutes (xGF/60) at a 2.33 rate. Edmonton is just ahead of them with 2.40 xGF/60 -- despite their lack of scoring. Defense is winning, and it's going to continue winning on Thursday night.

With Selke Trophy winner and Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov practicing this morning after leaving Game 2 after a hit to the head, any fears that Florida had should now be gone. It also means that their defense will still be at a top level, making things hard for Connor McDavid and the Oilers on home ice.

Since the start of the conference finals, there have been 14 games played in the playoffs. Out of those 14 games, 11 games have been under 5.5 goals. With the stakes higher than ever in a near must-win for the Oilers, I expect this to again be a low scoring tilt.
