NHL Single-Game Daily Fantasy Picks and Helper: Predators at Senators (1/29/24)

We've got just one NHL game on tap for tonight, but that doesn't mean we can't get in some daily fantasy action. Let's break down how to attack the single-game fantasy contests on FanDuel tonight.
As we ease into the All-Star break, it will be the Nashville Predators against the Ottawa Senators tonight. The Senators are a -118 favorite with the total set at 6.5 goals, according to the NHL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook.
NHL DFS Picks
Top Captain Options
With Ottawa being favored, Brady Tkachuk ($15,000) certainly makes sense as a captain. He leads the team with 20 goals and shots on goal, with 65 more shots than any of his teammates. His role of being on the top line and top power play makes him an obvious choice.
He's not the player with the highest salary on the slate, though, as that belongs to Filip Forsberg ($15,500). He's quietly having a great season, with 23 goals and 50 points.
Those 23 goals are tied with superstars like Leon Draisaitl and William Nylander. Forsberg will also play on Nashville's top line and power play against an Ottawa team that allows the third-most goals per game.
Tim Stutzle ($13,500) leads Ottawa in points with 45. He's now on the first line with Tkachuk but not on the first power play. While it certainly wouldn't be a huge surprise to see Stutzle lead the slate in fantasy points, it would be nice if he was on that top unit.
Perhaps a better option from Ottawa would be Claude Giroux ($12,500), as he will get on the first power play as well as the first line. He trails Stutzle by only four points for the team lead.
On Nashville, Ryan O'Reilly ($13,000) would be the second option after Forsberg. He sees more minutes than Forsberg and is second on the team in goals and points.
Flex Breakdown
The highest-salaried player we didn't mention as a potential captain is Roman Josi ($14,000). It's tricky playing defensemen as captains, as they don't score as many goals as forwards. Josi is definitely in play, especially if you're using Forsberg or O'Reilly as captain, but he isn't quite on the same pace as he was in 2021-22 when he recorded 96 points.
Although Josh Norris ($10,500) hasn't scored a goal since December 23rd, he gets a good role on the second line and first power play. Despite the slump, he still ranks fifth on the team with 12 goals, even with seven games missed.
Gustav Nyquist ($10,000) plays on the first line and first PP with O'Reilly and Forsberg, so he is a complimentary piece if stacking Nashville's top players.
Another Nashville player to consider is Colton Sissons ($9,000). He is third on the team with 13 goals and has four points in his last five games.
The best value option on the Sens is Shane Pinto ($7,500). He's returned from his suspension and has two points in his four games. Now, he is getting a turn with the first power play and is by far the lowest-salary player on that unit. He's a great option to roster if Tkachuk or Giroux is your captain.
I'll always have a soft spot for Denis Gurianov ($6,000), as he's big and fast with a booming shot. He once scored 20 goals in 64 games, and the hope is there that he can find his game again. He will see time on Nashville's second power-play unit, so you could do worse for a minimum-salary player.
I'd also consider Cody Glass ($6,000), as he's another player who is on the PP for the dead minimum.
