Player props can be useful in a variety of ways -- from taking advantage of them straight up to measuring a player's potential to produce in daily fantasy hockey on FanDuel. Here, we're going to focus on the former.

Utilizing numberFire's projections as a guide, here are some NHL player props bets that look appealing via the NHL odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.

NHL Prop Bets

Nikolaj Ehlers To Score a Goal (+175)

The Winnipeg Jets are massive -465 moneyline favorites against the San Jose Sharks, which should mean plenty of goals tonight.

With a 3.60 implied goal total, the Jets are the clear top option on the slate for player props considering the Sharks are abysmal on defense this season.

This year, the Sharks are allowing 68.89 Total Shot Attempts per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the worst in the league. As you can assume, if they give up a ton of shot attempts, they also give up a ton of goals. They allow 3.10 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the second-worst in the league, a surprise to no one.

This leads me to Nikolaj Ehlers, who skates on the first forward line and the first power-play unit, which has allowed him to rack up 15 total goals this and an average of 3.0 shots on goal per game.

Over his last six games, he has 17 shots on goal but no goals to show for it. Given this soft matchup, I love Ehlers' shoot-first mentality and role to grab a goal tonight.

Aaron Ekblad Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (+142)

When it comes to pushing the pace on offense, the Florida Panthers are always among the best in the league.

Over the last three weeks, the Panthers' offense has generated a whopping 72.63 Total Shot Attempts per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which tops the league. During the same time, the Pittsburgh Penguins are allowing the 13th most (61.09) Total Shot Attempts per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations.

We'll turn to Aaron Ekblad, who is the defender on the first defensive pairing and the second power-play unit. Ekblad is averaging 2.1 shots on goal per game this season but over the last 10 games, he has pushed that to 2.7 shots on goal per game.

Ekblad has posted at least two shots on goal in nine of his last 10 games, bringing a strong level of consistency to the table.
