Player props can be useful in a variety of ways -- from taking advantage of them straight up to measuring a player's potential to produce in daily fantasy baseball on FanDuel. Here, we're going to focus on the former.

Utilizing numberFire's projections as a guide, here are some NHL player props bets that look appealing via the NHL odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.

Please note that betting lines and numberFire's projections may change throughout the day after this article is published. Also, the weather may be an issue in some locations.

Mitch Marner

To Record 1+ Powerplay Points (+170)

The Toronto Maple Leafs have a 3.72 implied goal total against the Anaheim Ducks, in what should be a one-sided matchup.

While the Leafs aren't the most consistent team in the league, they are much better than the Ducks, giving us a clear spot to target for player props.

This season, the Ducks have taken 525 penalty minutes, which are the most in the NHL, while the Maple Leafs' power-play converts at the seventh-best (24.8%) rate. With some solid odds for a power-play point, we'll turn to Mitchell Marner tonight.

He has a total of 38 points this season, with 11 of them coming on power-play or 29% of his total points. If we convert the +170 to probability, we get 37%, giving us a decent value gap to target for a power-play point tonight.

Luke Hughes

To Record 1+ Points (+114)

With a 3.55 implied goal total, the New Jersey Devils should be piling up the offense versus the Washington Capitals tonight.

The Capitals are on the second night of a back-to-back and playing their fourth game in the last six days. Some tired legs could help the Devils' offense get out and running, something they've been doing plenty of.

Since the start of December, the Devils are scoring 2.84 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the ninth-best in the league. They can get the offense going when they need to and it leads me to Luke Hughes for a point tonight.

Hughes was on fire to end December with 5 NHL points and 11 shots on goal, a clear increase in his production. With Dougie Hamilton still out of the lineup, Hughes is the defender on the first power-play, piling up plenty of points in his new role.
