Player props can be useful in a variety of ways -- from taking advantage of them straight up to measuring a player's potential to produce in daily fantasy hockey on FanDuel. Here, we're going to focus on the former.

Utilizing numberFire's projections as a guide, here are some NHL player props bets that look appealing via the NHL odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.

NHL Prop Bets

Brandon Montour Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (+100)

While the Florida Panthers lost the opener to the Boston Bruins 5-1, they actually played well.

A 5-1 score may seem very lopsided but the Panthers performed many aspects well in Game 1, they just didn't get the results. In terms of Total Shot Attempts Created, the Panthers were up at 86 compared to the Bruins at 56. That led to 39 shots on goal for the Panthers and 29 shots on goal for the Bruins.

The goals weren't there for the Panthers but a very high volume of attempts is a great underlying stat to have and can point us to some value in the prop market.

We'll look to Brandon Montour, who is the defender on the second defensive pairing and the first power-play unit. He comes in with 16 shots on goal through six playoff games, including 4 shots on goal in Game 1 and at least 2 shots on goal in all six games.

With the Panthers down 1-0 in the series, they need to keep that level of offensive pressure from Game 1 and push that further to try and even up the series.

Leon Draisaitl Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-128)

The Edmonton Oilers visit the Vancouver Canucks for Game 1 of their second-round series.

This is a familiar matchup for two Pacific Division opponents, which should only add to the overall intensity of this series. I'm anticipating a modest amount of scoring overall, most of which should come in the earlier games of the series.

We'll keep things simple with a shot prop for Leon Draisaitl, who leads the Oilers with 23 shots on goal through their first five games of the playoffs.

With the Canucks rolling out a third-string goalie in Arturs Silovs, the Oilers should look to pile up the shots and tilt the offensive pressure in their favor. That means a healthy dose of shots from Draisaitl, due to his time on the second forward line and the first power-play unit.
