Player props can be useful in a variety of ways -- from taking advantage of them straight up to measuring a player's potential to produce in daily fantasy hockey on FanDuel. Here, we're going to focus on the former.

Utilizing numberFire's projections as a guide, here are some NHL player props bets that look appealing via the NHL odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.

NHL Prop Bets

Tyler Seguin Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (+125)

The Dallas Stars need to bounce back after blowing a 3-0 lead to the Colorado Avalanche in Game 1.

The Stars jumped out to a 3-0 in the first period of Game 1 and saw their lead slowly dwindle away with an eventual loss in overtime. After the first period, the Stars took a total of seven shots on goal in the second and third periods combined, with six shots in overtime.

I don't know how else to say it, but that is horrible.

Getting the lead and then proceeding to take seven shots on goal in 40 minutes is never a good plan so they need to flip the script tonight and pile up the shots throughout the game.

This brings me to Tyler Seguin, who skates on the third forward line and the second power-play unit for the Stars. This role has allowed Seguin to go over this 2.5 shot prop in seven of the eight playoff games this season.

The Stars need to bounce back, and Seguin has shown a high level of consistency in the playoffs.

Martin Necas Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-125)

With the Carolina Hurricanes down 2-0 in the series to the New York Rangers, offensive pressure for the Canes has to be their top priority.

The Canes should look to get out to an early lead in their first home game this series and that means getting shots on net early and often.

This has always been the Canes' calling card and they can't let up now, as they sit down 2-0 in the series. While they have several good offensive options, Martin Necas stands out.

While he has just 14 shots on goal through six playoff games, he has 35 total shot attempts. Not every shot is going to hit the net, some are blocked and some go wide. But Necas continues to have a high volume of attempts, which consistently puts him in a spot to hit high shots on goal.

With the Canes in a series deficit, they need to keep the pressure up on offense and try to turn things around.
