NHL Norris Trophy Odds: Quinn Hughes Remains Favorite

The stretch run is here for the 2023-24 NHL season.

As with any NHL season, the race to the playoffs will be an exciting one, but perhaps more than previous seasons, the majority of award races are closer than ever with the final third of the season to go. The Norris Trophy is down to a two-man race, and it very well may be the most interesting award to follow.

Let's dive into the odds for the Norris Trophy per FanDuel Sportsbook.

Quinn Hughes (-155)

There hasn't been a moment outside of the preseason where Quinn Hughes wasn't the favorite to win the Norris Trophy.

It's been pure domination from the Vancouver Canucks' captain since the first game of the campaign. While his name has fallen out of the Hart Trophy conversation as it was in the first 20 games or so, he's still holding off the rest of the defenseman with what he's doing for the NHL-best Canucks.

Through 49 games, the defenseman has 12 goals, 50 assists, and 62 points. Both the assists and points lead all defensemen while his goal mark is tied for second at the position. His value goes even further, however.

Hughes also leads the NHL with a plus/minus of +34, proving how important he is when he's on the ice.

For a player who stormed onto the scene just a few years ago, he's on pace to smash any previous personal records he's had. Assuming he can keep consistent with points and keep up the push for the Canucks to take a top spot heading into the playoffs, this is his award to lose. The odds in this market reflect exactly that.

Cale Makar (+140)

Holding off Cale Makar will be a real challenge because he is coming in hot for the final stretch of the season.

Makar has unsurprisingly been fantastic this season. There's an argument to be made that he has been better than Hughes night in and night out considering what his track record has been.

While he did miss time earlier in the year, he's still managed to play 45 games and has put up video game numbers as a result. Despite playing four fewer games, the defenseman is just 3 points back of Hughes with 59 on the season after potting 12 goals and recording 47 helpers. Makar could earn his second Norris Trophy with a hot close to the season; it'd be hard to deny him with more points.

If you're looking for a bet to make in this market and believe Hughes may falter, Makar is the only realistic alternative. There's a great chance it does come down to the wire, and the odds can change in a matter of games -- let alone just the remainder of the 2023-24 season.
