NHL Daily Fantasy Picks and Helper: Tuesday 2/6/24

NHL DFS is similar to MLB in terms of how you build lineups, how you view stacking, and how to value players.
Two main points to always focus on in NHL DFS are what lines the players are on and making sure the goalies you are rostering are confirmed as the starters.
Two of the best resources for that are LeftWingLock.com and DailyFaceOff.com. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team, along with which goalies are confirmed as the starters.
Let's jump in and take a look at today's slate, find a goalie, some stacks, and some value plays for your NHL DFS lineups on FanDuel.
NHL DFS Picks
Goalie to Target
Connor Hellebuyck, Winnipeg Jets ($7,500)
When the best goalie in the world is playing in a strong matchup, you do not pass up on him.
Connor Hellebuyck has been on another level this season. With an elite Winnipeg Jets defense ahead of him, Hellebuyck has posted a 2.20 goals against average and .924 save percentage, both of which rank second in the NHL. The former Vezina Trophy winner also ranks second with 25.59 goals saved above expectation.
The sugar on top with starting Hellebuyck is that he's facing a Pittsburgh Penguins team that has a good offense but can't put the puck in the net.
Pittsburgh has the fourth-best Corsi For per 60 minutes (65.76) and is averaging the sixth-most Shots For per 60 minutes (32.76). While both are great marks for any offense, they're failing with 2.92 Goals For per 60 minutes, ranking 20th in the NHL.
This is the recipe for success for a goalie like Hellebuyck, which is why we side with him over the other top options on the night.
numberFire's model projects Hellebuyck to finish with 20.1 FanDuel points.
Stacks
Dallas Stars
The Dallas Stars are in a great spot to be stacked in DFS lineups tonight.
Dallas will face off with the Buffalo Sabres, a game where numberFire's heat map has them set with the best implied total of the day at 3.52.
The Stars have been a powerful offense throughout the 2023-24 regular season. Through 49 games, the Stars have put together a 62.64 Corsi For per 60 minutes and 3.64 Goals For per 60 minutes. Both rank top-10 in the league with the Goals For coming in as the third-highest mark.
This makes for a good combination against a Sabres team that's allowing 3.12 Goals Against per 60 minutes. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen will be between the pipes for Buffalo. He isn't an easy goalie to beat with his 2.61 goals against average, but with just a .909 save percentage on the year and career .901 percentage, it should be no problem for the Stars to have their way.
Stacking this lineup should start with the top line of Jason Robertson ($7,700), Roope Hintz ($7,600), and Wyatt Johnston ($5,700). The best choices are Robertson and Hintz, as they're also featured on the first power-play unit.
Colorado Avalanche
On a day of non-ideal matchups for the league's best teams, we're going with the Colorado Avalanche who should be able to come out of the break strong.
Even though they have the fourth-highest implied total (3.31), it's the team that I feel has the best matchup after the Stars. Let's bank on that being true for tonight's stack against the New Jersey Devils.
After all, the Avalanche have one of the best offenses. They're averaging 3.74 Goals For per 60 minutes, ranking second in hockey. Add in a seventh-ranked Corsi For per 60 minutes (63.18) and a ninth-ranked Shots For per 60 minutes (31.7) to confirm their overall domination in the offensive zone.
Facing a Devils team that has struggled in net makes this an easy one when it's all said and done. Vitek Vanecek is expected to start for the Devils, and, well, he's been brutal this season. Vanecek has a 3.24 goals against average and .886 save percentage, which are just rough marks all around. In his last two starts, he's allowed nine goals total. With an offense like the Avs, they should be able to keep that up.
The first line features Nathan MacKinnon ($10,200), Mikko Rantanen ($9,600), and Jonathan Drouin ($4,500). The pricey duo of MacKinnon and Rantanen is rough but often proves to be worth it with how they've played. Cale Makar ($8,300) is a great option on the backend.
Value Skaters
Tyler Toffoli, W, New Jersey Devils ($5,800)
It's been a great goal-scoring season for Tyler Toffoli, and we are counting on that with him being the top value skater of the night.
Toffoli has notched 21 goals in the first 47 games, putting him on track for his second straight 30-plus goal season. He has also added 13 assists, bringing him to 34 points overall. Through his last four games, he's scored five goals on 18 shots, which makes this the right time to get him in DFS lineups.
He's playing on the second line and top power-play for the Devils, giving him the ice time that is needed to deliver.
numberFire's model is behind Toffoli tonight, projecting him to finish with 15.0 FanDuel points.
Ross Colton, W, Colorado Avalanche ($4,700)
Ross Colton is a perfect value skater for the eight-game slate.
The forward has been nothing but solid for the Colorado Avalanche this season. The 27-year-old has 26 points on the campaign, scoring 10 goals and recording 16 assists. This all comes while centering the second line for the Avs and averaging his career-high in ice time with 13:55. It's not a lot, but seeing as he also takes part on the top power play for the team, it's enough to make him a fine value tonight -- especially when we like the team as a stack.
Colton is projected to finish with 12.0 FanDuel points, per numberFire's model.
