NHL Daily Fantasy Picks and Helper: Monday 3/25/24

NHL DFS is similar to MLB in terms of how you build lineups, how you view stacking, and how to value players.

Two main points to always focus on in NHL DFS are what lines the players are on and making sure the goalies you are rostering are confirmed as the starters.

Two of the best resources for that are LeftWingLock.com and DailyFaceOff.com. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team, along with which goalies are confirmed as the starters.

Using our projections -- which are powered by numberFire -- as a guide, let's take a look at today's slate to find a goalie, some stacks, and value plays for your NHL DFS lineups on FanDuel.

NHL DFS Picks

Goalie to Target

Logan Thompson, Vegas Golden Knights ($8,100)

With just two games to pick from on the slate today, Logan Thompson is looking to be the best option as the Vegas Golden Knights take on the St. Louis Blues.

Thompson has had a strong season as the No. 2 for the Golden Knights, filling in with success behind top netminder Adin Hill. He's had to start is fair share of games with Hill being injured, so he's been in net for nearly half the season; taking over tonight shouldn't be a problem. Through 38 games (34 starts), Thompson has totaled a 2.77 goals against average (GAA) and .905 save percentage (SV%). In his last two starts, he's only allowed two goals total. This may very well be the best time to get him.

As noted, the Golden Knights will be facing the Blues. St. Louis is a good matchup for goaltenders as they've lacked the scoring ability for much of this season despite remaining in the playoff hunt. They're only averaging 2.83 goals for per 60 minutes (GF/60) and 2.89 expected goals for per 60 minutes (xGF/60) this season. Both rank in the bottom 10 in the NHL.

The Blues are 23rd in the NHL in shots for per 60 minutes (SF/60) with 28.32, so at the very least, there's some ability to make stops for Thompson tonight to better his total for DFS lineups.

FanDuel Research's NHL projections have Thompson projected to be the top goaltender of tonight, expecting him to finish with 19.0 FanDuel points.

Stack

Vegas Golden Knights

Speaking of the Vegas Golden Knights, they're the offense to stack tonight against the St. Louis Blues.

They enter tonight with a solid 3.49 implied total per numberFire's heat map -- easily the best among the four teams playing on the slate.

The Golden Knights rank 15th in GF/60 with 3.13 but are 20th with 2.99 xGF/60. Their midseason woes desperately hurt them in the goalscoring department, but they're still putting up good enough numbers to beat a rough Blues team that is 23rd in Corsi against per 60 minutes (CA/60) at a 62.85 clip. St. Louis is also allowing the sixth-most shots against per 60 minutes (32.12 SA/60).

Keeping the puck out of the net has been a strength of the Blues as they're only allowing 2.99 GA/60. However, they're 28th in expected goals against per 60 minutes (xGA/60) in the NHL at 3.38. That's why I'm banking on the Golden Knights to break through in this game.

Firing up Vegas should come through the top line duo of Jack Eichel ($9,100) and Chandler Stephenson ($5,800). They get top line moments and are both on the first power-play unit, as well. Jonathan Marchessault ($8,400) and Ivan Barbashev ($4,700) offers the same kind of on the second line and also take part on the top power-play unit.

Value Skaters

Quinton Byfield, W, Los Angeles Kings ($5,800)

Quinton Byfield has consistently been a value option this season, and he's looking like one again tonight.

The Los Angeles Kings are facing the Vancouver Canucks in what is likely to be a tough game. Byfield should be able to make some noise, which he has the last two games. He's recorded an assist in back-to-back games, bringing his season total to 32 assists. He's also added 19 goals to his overall output, putting up 51 points in 68 games.

Vancouver is expected to start their backup goalie, Casey DeSmith. The backup has a 2.72 GAA and .901 SV% -- neither number is all too tough to beat, giving Byfield and company the legs to deliver tonight. Byfield's role is on the first line and second power play, giving him the chances to only aid his chances of being the top value plug.

Our projections expected the winger to finish with 11.5 FanDuel points.

Conor Garland, W, Vancouver Canucks ($5,000)

Listen, it hasn't been a great season for Conor Garland, but based on his recent play and where he's playing for the Vancouver Canucks right now, he's the second-best value option for tonight's games.

Garland has been taking up a spot on the first line for the Canucks, paired up with Elias Pettersson. That's the good news. While Garland has only had 15 goals, 21 assists, and 36 points through 71 games this year, things are really looking up. The Canucks' forward has recorded a point in six of his last seven games, which is music to our ears and, more importantly, our DFS lineups.

The Kings will be starting David Rittich tonight. He's been a tough one to crack with 2.17 GAA and .921 SV%. Over the last four games, he has had two games of allowing four goals each, so we have to bank on that version of him tonight.

Garland is projected to finish with 7.7 FanDuel points tonight, per our projections.
