NHL Daily Fantasy Picks and Helper: Monday 11/6/23

NHL DFS is similar to MLB in terms of how you build lineups, how you view stacking, and how to value players.

Two main points to always focus on in NHL DFS are what lines the players are on and making sure the goalies you are rostering are confirmed as the starters.

Two of the best resources for that are LeftWingLock.com and DailyFaceOff.com. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team, along with which goalies are confirmed as the starters.

Let's jump in and take a look at today's slate, find a goalie, some stacks, and some value plays for your NHL DFS lineups on FanDuel.

NHL DFS Picks

Goalie to Target

Jake Oettinger, Stars ($7,700)

Goalie is very tricky on this slate, with a lot of the games being evenly matched between good offenses. The goalie on the biggest favorite is Sergei Bobrovsky, and he can be difficult to trust.

Instead, we can look at Jake Oettinger for the Dallas Stars. The matchup certainly isn't ideal against the Boston Bruins, but Dallas is favored at home, and Boston is sporting the lowest implied team total on tonight's slate at just 2.58 goals.

Oettinger is fourth in the NHL in goals saved above expected (GSAX) this season after finishing seventh in this metric last season. Dallas is one of the best defensive teams in the NHL, ranking in the top 10 in expected goals against and high-danger chances at five-on-five, according to Natural Stat Trick.

Oettinger has the third-lowest salary of any goalie expected to start tonight, and we'll likely get a rock-solid performance from him.

Stacks

Toronto Maple Leafs

Whenever the Toronto Maple Leafs lose a few games in a row, the panic alarm is hit by the fans and media. Even at this early part of the season, the fact that they haven't won in their last four games is enough to send the center of the hockey universe into a frenzy.

That means tonight's game is massively important to turn things around --especially because they are playing the division-rival Tampa Bay Lightning. These two teams met earlier in the season, and the Leafs dominated that matchup. They created 4.65 expected goals in an overtime win.

Auston Matthews ($10,300) is having a feast-or-famine season. He already has scored three hat tricks but only has two goals outside of those three games. This is a weird quirk that should normalize, but 11 goals in 11 games is awesome regardless.

We've seen a drop in salary for Mitchell Marner ($7,500), but he's been productive with 13 points in 11 games. The new third member of this line is now Matthew Knies ($3,900). Knies was one of the best players in college hockey last season, and he has enough talent to click with these two stars.

You can also get a fairly affordable defenseman to play with Matthews and Marner, as John Klingberg ($4,400) is now on the first power-play unit. This makes this stack relatively easy to fit into lineups, especially for a team with the second-highest implied team total (3.51 goals).

Florida Panthers

The Florida Panthers suffered an embarrassing loss to the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday and will look to get back to winning tonight.

Their top-line players can't be blamed for the team sitting in seventh in the Atlantic Division. Sam Reinhart ($9,100) has 8 goals and 11 points in 10 games. Aleksander Barkov ($7,200) has nine points in nine games and is a nice value for his upside. Evan Rodrigues ($5,700) has lost his role on the first power play, but he still plays on the first line and has been productive with eight points.

Florida will face the Columbus Blue Jackets at home tonight. Columbus hasn't been quite the same disaster defensively as they were last year, but they still have allowed the third-most expected goals per 60 minutes this season.

The Panthers top the implied team totals tonight. Even though things haven't been perfect for them, they can easily be the team you need to stack to win tournaments tonight.

Value Skaters

Andrei Kuzmenko, W, Canucks ($4,800)

The only reason Andrei Kuzmenko did not win rookie of the year last season was because he was too old. He was definitely the most productive first-year player in the NHL.

He's continued to put up points, with nine in 11 games. He has the benefit of being tied to the hip of Elias Pettersson, playing with him at both even strength and on the top power play.

The Vancouver Canucks get a home matchup against the Edmonton Oilers, who are allowing the third-most goals per game. Vancouver put up eight in the previous meeting against Edmonton at home.

Now, that likely won't happen again, but it wouldn't be too surprising if we saw Kuzmenko score a couple of goals given his role, talent, and the matchup.

Kevin Shattenkirk, D, Bruins ($3,900)

With Charlie McAvoy suspended and Matthew Grzelcyk injured, Kevin Shattenkirk has stepped into the role of playing on the Bruins' top power play.

This isn't vintage-era Shattenkirk from his days playing with the St. Louis Blues, but he still has enough talent to quarterback a power play with the likes of David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand on it.

Shattenkirk played over 20 minutes in each of the last three games. It's hard to find that kind of value on any of the other teams, especially when it comes with time on the top PP.
