NHL Daily Fantasy Picks and Helper: Monday 1/22/24

NHL DFS is similar to MLB in terms of how you build lineups, how you view stacking, and how to value players.

Two main points to always focus on in NHL DFS are what lines the players are on and making sure the goalies you are rostering are confirmed as the starters.

Two of the best resources for that are LeftWingLock.com and DailyFaceOff.com. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team, along with which goalies are confirmed as the starters.

Let's jump in and take a look at today's slate, find a goalie, some stacks, and some value plays for your NHL DFS lineups on FanDuel.

NHL DFS Picks

Goalie to Target

Connor Ingram, Arizona Coyotes ($7,800)

The Arizona Coyotes will take on the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight, leaving us with Connor Ingram as our goalie to target.

Ingram has been one of the best goaltenders in the NHL this season, which is why we land with him in what can be a tough matchup some nights. The 26-year-old has had a breakout, totaling a 2.49 goals against average and .919 save percentage over 29 games. He's 16-9-1 with five shutouts on the campaign.

Advanced metrics back him up plenty, as well, as Ingram ranks third in the NHL with 19.16 goals saved above expectation. He's going to need every bit of his success so far to combat the offensive onslaught that the Penguins bring to the ice every night.

Pittsburgh has had an odd season. The reason is that their offense creates chances (65.62 Corsi For per 60 minutes), but it doesn't always lead to success -- as you can see by their 19th-ranked 2.97 Goals For per 60 minutes. They are recording 32.89 Shots For per 60 minutes on a nightly basis, leading us to target Ingram. Save opportunities create points for DFS lineups, and that's all we need.

numberFire's model projects Ingram to finish with 20.3 FanDuel points in tonight's contest.

Stacks

Vancouver Canucks

The best-scoring offense in hockey takes on one of the league's worst defenses. This is the night to stack the Vancouver Canucks without question.

Vancouver will face a rough Chicago Blackhawks team that continues to struggle. The Blackhawks have allowed 3.53 Goals Against per 60 minutes, the fourth-most. Combine that with the Canucks' league-leading 3.79 Goals For per 60 minutes to make for a near-perfect match between the two -- at least for DFS lineups.

Chicago is expected to start Petr Mrazek, who has been a gem for the Blackhawks in a rough year. Mrazek has a .906 save percentage but has a 3.04 goals against average -- giving potential to a number of scores that the Canucks can total tonight.

With an impressively high 4.23 implied total, per numberFire's heat map, Vancouver is in the driver's seat for a big score.

Stacking the Canucks comes with playing their top line. Elias Pettersson ($10,000) and J.T. Miller ($9,500) are two of the highest-salaried forwards tonight, so pair one with Brock Boeser ($7,800). All three forwards play on the top power-play unit, as well.

Quinn Hughes ($8,000) offers great offense on the backend with 56 points in 46 games.

Los Angeles Kings

The Los Angeles Kings are aiming to get back to where they were earlier in the season.

Los Angeles is coming off a 2-1 win against the New York Rangers and now walk into a perfect matchup against the lowly San Jose Sharks.

Despite the recent trend, the Kings are still tops in the league in multiple categories. Ranking third in Corsi For per 60 minutes (66.87) has led them to racking up just 3.14 Goals For per 60 minutes -- which is a number that has gone down over their tough stretch. The Kings rank fourth with 3.43 expected Goals For (xGF), proving that their luck can and will turn -- especially against a team like the Sharks.

San Jose has allowed 3.92 Goals Against per 60 minutes with a 71.00 Corsi Against per 60 minutes, both ranking as the worst in the league.

numberFire's heat map has the Kings at a 3.51 implied total, the second-best on the slate.

The Kings have a deep lineup to stack. The first line featuring Adrian Kempe ($7,600), Anze Kopitar ($7,200), and Pierre-Luc Dubois ($4,200) is the best option with them offering a value stack. Kempe and Kopitar are the ones to focus on the most with each taking part on the first power play.

On the second line, Kevin Fiala ($7,100) and Phillip Danault ($5,900) also offer value for a Kings stack.

Value Skaters

Quinton Byfield, W, Los Angeles Kings ($5,700)

Our top value skater of the six-game slate will be Quinton Byfield.

The 21-year-old is in the midst of a breakout season. Through 43 games, Byfield has put together 13 goals, 18 assists, and 31 points -- including 10 power-play points. It's important that even with Byfield centering the third line, he plays on the top power-play unit.

His usage with the Kings and the matchup against the Sharks makes for an ideal opportunity to make some noise. There should be plenty of chances for him to find the back of the net for a second straight tilt.

numberFire's model has Byfield projected to finish with 13.7 FanDuel points.

Evan Rodrigues, W, Florida Panthers ($4,900)

Evan Rodrigues is a low-salary, high-upside selection for tonight.

The winger has played a key part with the Florida Panthers this season, offering second-tier scoring after their big names. Rodrigues currently takes up the left side on the third line and the right side on the second power play.

He's been able to total 27 points on 7 goals and 20 assists over 45 games. For a third-line forward, he does average 2.17 shots per game, which is a strong output given the circumstances. The Panthers' winger has been held scoreless in his last two games, so facing a Nashville Predators crew that lets up 3.07 Goals Against per 60 minutes may be the right recipe to come through.

Rodrigues is expected to finish with 12.7 FanDuel points, per numberFire's projections.
