NHL Daily Fantasy Picks and Helper: Friday 2/23/24

NHL DFS is similar to MLB in terms of how you build lineups, how you view stacking, and how to value players.

Two main points to always focus on in NHL DFS are what lines the players are on and making sure the goalies you are rostering are confirmed as the starters.

Two of the best resources for that are LeftWingLock.com and DailyFaceOff.com. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team, along with which goalies are confirmed as the starters.

Using our projections -- which are powered by numberFire -- as a guide, let's take a look at today's slate to find a goalie, some stacks, and value plays for your NHL DFS lineups on FanDuel.

NHL DFS Picks

Goalie to Target

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, Buffalo Sabres ($7,900)

A three-game slate can make finding a good goalie a bit tough, but even with the likes of Connor Hellebuyck, I'm more inclined to favor Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen.

The Buffalo Sabres' netminder has had a very strong season in a year where his team has not. He's posted a 2.52 goals against average and .911 save percentage through 32 games (29 starts), placing him among the best this year.

Luukkonen should be able to do well against a Columbus Blue Jackets team that has done nothing but struggle all year long.

The Blue Jackets have been a team that can get chances and shots on net but don't make them count -- which is good news for a goalie to rack up points in DFS. Columbus has a 61.02 Corsi For per 60 minutes and is averaging 29.59 Shots For per 60 minutes. Those are fine enough numbers but have only added up to 2.92 Goals For per 60 minutes.

Our projections expect Luukkonen to finish with 18.2 FanDuel points.

Stacks

Edmonton Oilers

Another night, another great chance to stack an elite Edmonton Oilers offense.

The Oilers have been an offensive juggernaut this season, and that should only keep up tonight against the Minnesota Wild. Over their last 25 games, Edmonton is averaging 3.73 Goals For per 60 minutes, ranking fourth in the league. With that comes a 63.97 Corsi For per 60 minutes and 32.18 Shots For per 60 minutes, all supporting what they can and should accomplish in DFS lineups tonight.

The Wild have been in the middle of the pack for the majority of the year, as shown by their 60.05 Corsi Against per 60 minutes. Unfortunately for Minnesota -- and fortunately for the Oilers -- they haven't been all too good at keeping the puck out of their own net. They're 24th in the NHL with 3.29 Goals Against per 60 minutes. Let the goals pour in for Edmonton tonight.

numberFire's heat map has the Oilers with the best implied total of the night at 3.66.

Stacking the Oilers is always rather easy. Connor McDavid ($10,100) and Zach Hyman ($8,800) are the duo you're going to want in this lineup. It's a high combined salary, but they take up the major minutes on the first line and top power play, giving them plenty of value even with the high price. Leon Draisaitl ($9,400), Evan Bouchard ($7,400), and Evander Kane ($6,000) are all good options, as well.

Value Skaters

Jeff Skinner, W, Buffalo Sabres ($6,200)

Jeff Skinner has put together a good season, and he's locked in as the top value skater of the night as a result.

In terms of having a significant role, Skinner has a great spot playing on the left wing of the top line for the Sabres alongside Tage Thompson and Alex Tuch. He's also on the top power-play unit, giving him as good an opportunity as any to get on the board tonight against a bad Blue Jackets team that is allowing 3.67 Goals Against per 60 minutes.

Skinner broke a five-game scoreless streak on Wednesday with a goal, giving us confidence that he can build off that. Through 48 games, Skinner does have 18 goals, 17 assists, and 35 points -- a good season thus far.

Skinner is projected to finish with 15.8 FanDuel points, per our projections.

Nino Niederreiter, W, Winnipeg Jets ($4,900)

Let's go with veteran Nino Niederreiter as our other value option for tonight.

Our model is expecting a good game out of Niederrreiter, projecting him to finish with 11.8 FanDuel points.

He's coming off a two-point effort in his last game and has 28 points overall on the season. Against a team like the Chicago Blackhawks that is allowing 3.5 Goals Against per 60 minutes, Niederrreiter should have a great shot to register a point.

Admittedly, this isn't a premier role like Skinner, but it's one that includes usage on the third line and second power play. Niederreiter should be able to contribute enough in a game that the Jets should dominate.
